Constantly in mode of fight or flight response is not good

PR, journalism, and critical analysis are three different realms and adequate grounding is needed to distinguish them. RW journals turning a clone of each other is hardly useful. Quality and credibility stem from sound criticism and not merely by academic or professional degrees.

If I remember correctly, the then PM said in his speech that Babri Masjid will be rebuilt. This promise has been forgotten and perhaps is considered irrelevant. But that would be the greatest achievement of India if the domes reappear along with cobwebs. #Sabarimala gives hope.

Offices and Institutions created by the Constitution are too distant and intimidating for an ordinary citizen. Those are for those who can influence, mobilise, and organise. Ideas, however, have a trajectory of their own and at times catapult a lay person to large-scale recognition.
https://twitter.com/SavitriEraParty/status/1067452027343499264?s=19

Struggle for existence is a reality and achieving easy as well as big success in a complex and competitive environment is a challenge for everyone. Politics, in this scenario, is more of a career than any service motive, owing to compromising with values is a foregone conclusion.

Vacillation and ambivalence are hallmark of RSS which have helped it to survive. (Syādvāda or Anekantavada, of course, are old doctrines reinvented by postmodernism.) The only definite assertion made by Mohan Bhagwat recognising worship of Sai Baba has enough subversive potential.

It might be tempting to characterise certain phenomena with precision but words are insufficient to describe complex and multi-layered reality. Looking for the good side and drawing lessons from the flaws is a more balanced approach than outright vilification and condemnation.
https://twitter.com/NathTusar/status/1067808204019695617?s=19

RW commentators never bother about the dynamics of how events occur or possible hidden reasons behind them. What they dish out, day in and day out, is a bland version of out and out materialist account of people. The philosophical approach of looking at history is totally absent.

No one believed us then, but now many great minds are repeating that Modi is fake. In actuality, Modi is the same and holds up a mirror to others that they are all fake. Everyone is in love with stars and celebrities on TV and Modi exploits this weakness of the people to the hilt.

Three important debates: Triple Talaq, 377/LGBT, and #Sabarimala unfolding during the Modi regime have far reaching effects. Apart from the claims on economy and development, these social sector churning are surely outstanding feathers in Modi's cap. Obviously, no fakery here.

By firmly positing rising to the next level of Evolution as the target Sri Aurobindo alerts us to present imperfections. While rejection of what is wrong is necessary aspiration for the good qualities is primary. Both however must proceed in an attitude of surrender before Grace.

Such a graceful and divine performance of Kathak. From music to minute gestures of eyebrows and fingers...everything is perfect in classical in it purest sense.
If only North Indians could rescue this ancient dance form from the world of mujras...
https://t.co/0kyacEKzFJ
It's futile. I tried to go through some books. All of them with their heavy leftist agenda claims that dance is no older than 17th century! Only almost forgotten nationalist sources traced it's origin to Mahabharata.
Kathak was hijacked for the mujras of Islamic courts drowned into debauchery. Liberal history asserts that's kathak had no existence before it appeared in Islamic courts. And if it had existence then it is heavily persianized. Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb gugu gaga nonsense.!
Manu Hindus of North  then going by this portrayal of  Kathak considers it as impure/heavily Islamicized modern dance and hence neglect that heritage.

Also, let's not kid ourselves into thinking it's the selfie that's made people focus on physical appearances. We've been obsessed with establishing and conforming to conventions of beauty for centuries. And hating ourselves for falling short.

But as alluringly action-packed as these analogies are, they remain wholly speculative. And indeed, theories of conflict in and beyond the womb are just that. As the biologist Stephen Stearns at Yale has remarked: ‘the annals of research journals are littered with the corpses of beautiful ideas that were killed by facts’. At present, there is no definitive proof that the microchimeric activity, commonly described as conflict, combat or colonisation, reveals one entity pitted against the other. The assumption that the solitary organism strictly pursues goals of survival and genetic self-interest favours a parsimonious view of the individual: homo economicus operating in an environment of scarcity, in eternal competition with a nameless other.
The self emerging from microchimeric research appears to be of a different order: porous, unbounded, rendered constituently. Nelson suggests that each human being is not so much an isolated island as a dynamic ecosystem. And if this is the case, the question follows as to how this state of collectivity changes our conscious and unconscious motivations. If I am both my children and my mother, if I carry traces of my sibling and remnants of pregnancies that never resulted in birth, does that change who I am and the way I behave in the world? If we are to take to heart Whitman’s multitudes, we encounter an I composed of shared identity, collective affiliations and motivations that emerge not from a mean and solitary struggle, but a group investment in greater survival. Katherine Rowland is the publisher and director of Guernica magazine

Disregard for women’s consent and misogyny are deeply rooted in our religious, cultural and literary traditions. Several instances can be seen in both #Ramayana and #Mahabharata #MeToo https://t.co/Lnn7jqTkao

When you hear 'gender', what do think it is? A biological state? A social construct? Something that's fixed? Something that's fluid? Considering how important a part of our identities gender is, you'd think there'd be some consensus on what it is, right? But no.

It's difficult to explain just how normal we think it is for women to be as close to invisible as possible. And for many, it's not just in public spaces that women must shrink. Have you heard Lily Myers's Shrinking Women? (Gives me goosebumps) https://t.co/etRzEitSuH https://t.co/PZrJJSWsiN

https://twitter.com/shaviro/status/1043275999922868232?s=19
The basic argument of the book is that speculative financial operations are central to social life and experience today. Capitalism has moved from an extractive regime (generating surplus from exploiting labor) to a speculative regime (generating surplus from speculative financial transactions). In this way, finance is in no sense superstructural or extrinsic to the “real economy”; rather, it directly and entirely makes over the entire realm of the social. And in particular, financial speculation makes over our concept and experience of time.
Nothing is more rhizomatic than contemporary finance capital, and nothing is more exploitative.

Hi OpIndia readers. We have an important announcement to make and we seek your support in our new journey https://t.co/KmSOCHM44A
Digital news industry is in a flux, with the very basic business model of journalism itself under strain. When even big brands are finding it challenging to find the right business model, how could OpIndia survive? Such questions did scare us, however, we were too emotionally invested not to try.

The story behind the deity of #Sabarimala is definitely the creation of a talented poet of yore like Sophocles. [Freud misread Oedipus Rex—which does not illustrate the Oedipus complex— and distorted its meaning to suit his theoretical preconceptions.] https://t.co/aTCV9Qqees

Three lessons on Siddhi Day:
1. Sri Aurobindo is the topmost authority on Indian religion and tradition.
2. Sanskrit texts need to be understood in the light of his interpretations.
3. Evolution towards a global consciousness warrants shedding antipathy towards foreign cultures.

A gap of a century between the launch of Brahmo Samaj on 20 August 1828 and formal establishment of Sri Aurobindo Ashram on 24 November 1926 following Siddhi attained by #SriAurobindo, which witnessed wide ranging intellectual churning. Can't be steamrolled under Hindu narrative.

Textbook ethical positions vis-à-vis politics seem absurd considering how much manipulation and malpractice are rampant. But The Mother & Sri Aurobindo invoke Vedic virtues to assure that those refined qualities are a reality and can be attained by individuals who seek sincerely.

Nikos Kazantzakis, Cornelius Castoriadis, and Zygmunt Bauman

From refusing to give information on how close to 30 books were banned in independent India and how those bans were never revoked, the Ministry finally relented and offered to give information on three books: The Satanic Verses, James W. Laine’s Shivaji and Peter Heehs’ The Life of Sri Aurobindo. But even here the Ministry continued to dig in its heels, citing potential law and order problems that would arise from sharing full information on the books, till the Central Information Commission ordered it to share whatever it had subject to the provisions of the RTI Act.

The book, meant for all who appreciate the things Auroville stands for, tries to capture the insights and inspirations for one’s joy and enrichment from Karan Singh’s charismatic person while presiding over the Auroville Foundation for the major span of its existence. The book has six parts constituting Karan Singh’s speeches in and on Auroville, selection from interviews, letters, articles on Auroville followed by a visual presentation of his early visits to Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry and assorted topics of interest. There is also a special addendum “Light on Karan Singh” which contains reminiscences and perceptions on Karan Singh from many scholars and prominent figures from across the globe. The book contains plenty of striking pictures of Karan Singh in Auroville and at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry over the span of 50 years.

And they JUST CAN'T DIGEST IT because their lives have been lives of educational privilege. They have always been the top rung of Indian society. They were brought up on the lie that they are better than everyone else. They have always been the ones destined for "success".

However, the two cultures are meeting. Internet is a great melting pot. Today, cognitive science, aesthetics, art, coding, engineering all combine to create real changes in our lives. I should not leave out the third stream - commerce - which drives the fusion

In fairness, these studies were observational studies, so they do not prove higher LDL-C directly protected against dementia. We can hypothesize why higher levels of LDL-C are associated with lower incidence of dementia. It could be a marker of overall health or nutritional status, it could be that LDL-C directly improves the health of neurons and prevents brain atrophy, or it could be more related to lack of diabetes or ApoE4 status for which a study may not always completely control.

FYI Auroville was not 'established by a bunch of white people'. That Buzzfeed title is racist and inaccurate. It was established by the Mother, who wasn't white AFAIK, and who was the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo, an Indian. The Mother and Sri Aurobindo were so close..... that you cannot completely distinguish between the two after some point, so there is a sense in which Sri Aurobindo had a part to play in the establishment of Auroville. Further, not only Europeans, but local people and others also had a role to play in the establishment of..Auroville.

Some books listed already are excellent but one that was gifted by a friend is an old book first issued in the 1940's, 'I Dare You!' by William Danforth. The language 'dates' it but the messages on self improvement are timeless. Here is a free .pdf https://t.co/uGODUywh0p

Progress and Poverty by Henry George. The greatest American thinker nobody has ever heard of. Reverting to classical economic thought and applying his Land Value Tax theory, i was able to see the cat. Once you see the cat you always can see the car

Pollyanna and The Little Prince..they are simple books but both remind me of simple things in life to be happy about that most people forgot to do or think in this huge and complicated world..
