Nirodbaran Passes Away

Shri Nirodbaran, a long time disciple of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, passed away on 17 July 2006 at the age of 102. Born in the year 1903, he joined the Ashram in 1933 after returning from England as a qualified doctor. In the ashram, besides taking care of the Ashram dispensary, he also took to writing potery as a means of sadhana, under the guidance of Sri Aurobindo.
His correspondence with the Master for the first five years has been published as "Correspondence with Sri Aurobindo" which reveals not only his spiritual quest but also an altogether different aspect of Sri Aurobindo where he answers the disciple's questions with an unsurpassed humour and spiritual insight. He was also one of the personal attendants of Sri Aurobindo for twelve years, from 1938 to 1950. He was 103 when he left the body. Bur perhaps, most important, he was the scribe to whom Sri Aurobindo dictated his epic poem 'Savitri', in the later years. Sri Aurobindo Society Website
