Many of us do take up challenges and fight our way out of situations. Once we accept that everything in life is dictated by fate, we will remain passive, adopting the path of least resistance. We wait for things to happen rather than make things happen. We need to look at obstacles as opportunities and overcome them. Those who are inclined to believe in free will are also inclined to be proactive for they are prepared to act and not give up. This way, they could very well deter any ill-effects of past (inappropriate) actions. They accept the law of karma the rule of cause and effect in its totality. Aurobindo said that we are our fate through our action.
