Curzon was merely a puppet

Assorted tweets for general information:

How do we view #Mathematics? We revisit Sundar Sakkurai’s @epw_in article, which argues that mathematics is “mysterious” only because it is viewed as a logical system rather than as a verbal language. https://t.co/GTAWxpOAmM | #PiDay https://t.co/P1qHcynaHy

According to Sakkurai, numbers can be used to build narratives in a manner similar to the way letters and words generate meaning in languages. Calculations, he argues, are nothing more than mathematical writings, which are comparable with English. https://t.co/0iFmUOe41Y
This ability to “proliferate narratives” is what makes mathematics unique. https://t.co/KBF7xYykMe

On Raghuram Rajan's interview with @tylercowen
I think he is all confused in reaction to Tyler's question on Anglo-American liberalism in India Let me elaborate (Contd..)
https://t.co/qkGOH985KB
https://twitter.com/shrikanth_krish/status/1105982433969795079?s=19
So yes there is ample religious freedom in India
But the continued existence of that freedom entails neither a secular Constitution nor an irreligious state!
Mr Rajan is wrong to conflate religious freedom in India with the Nehruvian "idea of India" (that Indians mostly reject)
True
Moreover secularism in the Anglo American tradition stems from hostility to religion. America is cited as an example contrary to this. But I disagree. Even American at its founding had religious skeptics like Jefferson
In contrast, Indian secularism is hardly anti-religion

India is not a liberal state in the Anglo American sense because the latter only recognizes individual rights whereas India recognizes rights of minorities as a group in addition to their individual rights. India is consociationalist in many ways.

The Rise & Fall of #Terroristan - my article looks Pakistan’s life cycle: birth, mid-life & possible end, rooted in Terrorism as an Instrument of policy. And India & Bharat’s responses to it.

The “Idea of India” is based on a terribly poor interpretation of Ahimsa by Gandhi and a hotch-potch ad-mix of high sounding words like pluralism, secularism, inclusiveness which were all formulated with the cynical objective of tying the hands of Bharat, gagging any speech that questioned the take-over of Bharat by the creeping support for Terroristan.

Sufism tries to project a broad ‘Universalism’ & then ensnares gullible into the narrowest of dogmas.

Cults are trained to feed, take care of bakras & show them ‘affection’. And on a designated day, halal the bakra ruthlessly & make a show of piety that it is for the poor.

SA mentions in his 15 Aug 1947 address re the nature of Independence then.
Gandhi confused masses re Ahimsa, Dharma & yet he was an adept mobilizer & shaper of mass opinion. He allowed Indian blood to be shed for WW1/2. But not for Hindus to even protect themselves. 2/n

There are outright apologists too. In his article, ‘Revisiting the British Raj’, in Swarajya Magazine, Jaitirth Rao states that Lord Curzon and Lord Irwin were more worthy than Baba Kharak Singh and Kasturba Gandhi. He goes on to paint Lord Curzon as the saviour of Historical Monuments of Bharat by enacting the Preservation of Ancient Monuments Act of 1904

Start with Secret of the Veda by Sri Aurobindo. The key to Vedic symbolism is found there for a subset. For whole translation following this key RL Kashyap has done work. For a high level intro to bhava behind read Roberto Calasso’s Ardor and may be Ka.

Assume you have some understanding of Vedanta and Gita and ideally some sadhana behind you. Much of the Veda would be vague without a lived psychology of the aspirant. For the later specialisations of Upanishad or Tantra or various Yogas have their seeds in the Veda.
Saami..mental understanding is one thing..but to feel is better..for the Veda holds its treasure securely..approach Her as you would the Divine whose word She is. Propitiate Her for understanding, look at Her as would Prahalada at Narasimha, or Meera at Krishna.

If Modi was a pill, he would never come sugar-coated
Like in cricket, coaches don’t win matches. Players do and they always have. Likewise, the development of the country is not merely done by any government or leader but by the citizens themselves. Coaches might tinker or straighten the player’s game, play a benevolent uncle or a stern elder brother, show a little window of opportunity, may be even a door, but they can’t win matches on their own. Same is with the leader of any country. And so while it’s important to get a good man or woman to lead, we can’t look upon him as a messiah.

You are avoiding the basic issue of self-determination of Kashmir people which is the genesis of terror. Further, why a terrorist would oblige the ruling party just one month before the elections are declared is a mystery. So, it's obvious that so many forces and players operate.
