Save this tweet. On 30th May, 7 days from now a whole bunch of politicians will line up at #JoykrishnaPublicLibrary for a social media photoshoot to pay their respect to #SriAuorobindo. It's the day Sri Aurobindo came out of Presidency Jail, came to our house in #Uttarpara (1/2)
On a visit to Aurobindo Bhavan Kolkata, recently, my companion asked me if the tree was dying because some of the older branches showed long cracks. That's when we noticed a few green shoots of new leaves stemming from some of the broken branches, promisi…
In the short run, WhatsApp University beats Twitter Tattle. In the long run, Twitter turns into an open university while WhatsApp becomes a gossip mill.
It is a struggle. Every technology is a double edged sword.

Twitter can also be developed as an instrument of power by the ruling regime —a twenty first century version of Bentham’s Panopticism. We are seeing the ominous signs of that happening .
In a deep dive into Bentham's work I find myself surprisingly in agreement with his ruthless dismissal of natural rights. We've seen during covid how rights are meaningless. NO ONE CARES. All rights are JUNK rights. E.g. ICC and ALL courts have SUPPORTED crimes against humanity.
As I've pointed out, there is an ethics which underpins utilitarianism: Bentham's dictum: "everybody to count for one, nobody for more than one". EVERYONE IS EQUAL REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY ARE A CHILD, JEW, CHINESE, INDIAN, WOMAN OR ANYTHING ELSE. This ethics underpins a CBA.
The correct approach to public health is to visualise it as a BRANCH OF ECONOMICS. Economics is the science of public welfare and PH is ONE of its many (many!) offshoots (as Bentham's inputs conclusively show). Without a strong foundation in economics, NO ONE CAN DO PH.

I'm glad that J.S. Mill had the same disdain I've developed for the concept of "ethics". In 1863, J.S. Mill said that ethics is worthless, being subjective (so everything can be justified) & that ALL ethics MUST ultimately defer to Bentham's principles. socialsciences.mcmaster.ca/econ/ugcm/3ll3
What's interesting about Bentham's original conception of the panopticon prison was that it was meant to impress the ILLUSION of all-seeing, a few guards could not keep their eyes on everyone at once, but the design meant you couldn't be SURE you weren't being watched.
Is there too much regulation of cryptocurrencies or too little? On Bentham’s Gaze, argues that the real problems are inappropriate reuse of regulations from classical finance, imprecise terminology, and inconsistencies between jurisdictions.

Have you ever done any real research??? Maybe dig a bit deeper into your own culture…perhaps start with Hon J. Bentham’s…Plea for a Constitution 1803….Maybe even O’Hara’s 1818 history about how the Sydney Aboriginal people lost their lands to the bullying of the Monarchy…

Kojève too has some similar positions vis-à-vis labour and master-slave. There is an interesting essay ‘Man, that night’ by Althusser, which demolishes this anthropological view on history. Heidegger never convinced me on history, for his ‘obviousness’ towards history.
Being normal and reading Wolin’s Heidegger in Ruins on a beach. So comprehensive there’s nowhere for Heidegger stans to go on this one. I remember the scholarship on Heidegger’s Naziism fifteen years ago—it was strong then, the evidence is now overwhelming. Highly recommend
Heidegger in Ruins is proving a handy overview and synthesis of the past 10 years of dirt for those of us who haven't been paying attention to that mess. Arendt recognized that his "intricate and childish dishonesty has crept into his philosophizing"
Here is a much needed book by Sanjoy Pattnaik on Odia film making history with indepth analysis of the social narratives inbuilt in it, published by Routledge and to be launched for South Asian market by the end of this month or early next month. A must read for all...
Others are great in their own right but Sri Aurobindo is the greatest. Whether it's from the political history angle or philosophy; from psychological analysis or poetry, #SriAurobindo surpasses them all. So, what's required is unlearning; shedding the past baggage. Then he comes near.
