Aurobinod’s epic Savitri running into about twenty-four thousand lines is not
only a literary masterpiece; it is the supreme revelation of his vision, and a
record of his yogic and spiritual attainments. It proclaims the future of man
and prepares the necessary ground for the powers of the spirit to enter into
his life. As an example, it speaks of essential sound becoming the material
sound, and it is that which can give rise to new expression. These are the

Sri Aurobindo Ghosh
(15 August 1872 – 5 December 1950) was an Indian nationalist, freedom fighter,
philosopher, yogi, guru, and poet. He was the first Indian to create a major
literary corpus in English… As a poet he developed his own vision of human
progress and spiritual evolution. His early poems, quite naturally, reveal
deep influences of his Greek and Latin scholarship. They are replete with
names, allusions and images drawn from Greek and Latin classics. His later
poems are replete with allusions from the Veda, the Upanishadas and the

My
general comment is that I prefer to think of Smith’s use of the IH metaphor as
leading people to actions that met their immediate interests and which in due
course had “unintended outcomes”. The IH metaphor is not
an unintended “mechanism”… In general, I would go along with “unintended
consequences” as an idea, but not with “invisible hand explanations”,
especially linked or sourced to Adam Smith or his use of the IH
metaphor. The “invisible hand” is not an explanation; it describes
metaphorically the motives of some actors for acting, and it is those actions,
not their motives, that have unintended consequences.
