The Greeks of antiquity did not like to learn foreign languages

The image of India in classical antiquity remains largely a mirror of Hellenic self-affirmation, self-exploration and self-questioning. In its very openness, the Greek attitude towards foreign cultures and traditions is limited and ambiguous; its proclamation of universalism and cosmopolitanism remains, in spite of its programmatic potential, self-centered and abstract. The Greeks of antiquity did not like to learn foreign languages, and they did not favor translating into their own tongue.

We could already be at the beginning of the end! What a laying-waste! We shall need monasteries again. & we shall be the first brothers
Wir können bereits am Anfang von Ende sein! Welche Wüstenei! Wir werden wieder Klöster brauchen. & wir werden die ersten fratres sein

"It is not to be supposed that the circumstances & lines of transition would be the same for all, for here we enter into the domain of the Infinite. The scrutiny of one line, governed by the natural configuration of the stair of ascent, is all that can be attempted."
-Aurobindo

The erasure of language is the erasure of memories. And with the erasure of memories comes the erasure of culture.
A beautiful piece on how colonized countries are taught to revere English at the cost of their own languages. Rings very true here.

Sometimes there is a system level barrier which forces people to leave their own languages.
And then there is what we choose to do because we have been taught to hate our own knowledge systems.

Ulka is not available on public domain...that is the bane here... most of the movies... even those of the 70s... 80s... are not archived ... or in some cases lost... but the good thing is that ... some of these great ones are slowly being available on YT...
Agree with you... that’s the sad part...Film Journalist Forum here... is salvaging some prints.. but they need more professional restoration ... hope @Culturedeptt takes steps on this front...

''Manika'' (1986) was amongst the last Odia Movies to be composed by Upendra Kumar...this Bijay Mohanty-Tandra Ray starrer...had some good numbers by Sikander Alam, Vani Jairam , S.Janaki...the records though was released in 1982... https://t.co/riJomT4vBv

Prof Anant Charan Sukla, a globally revered scholar of comparative aesthetics, and the founding editor of Journal of Comparative Literature & Aesthetics (JCLA), one of the oldest journals in the area, passed away today at his Cuttack residence.
Respectful homage! https://t.co/tqLyXkycdD
Prof Sukla's book on Viswanath Kaviraja, published by Sahitya Akademi as part of its Makers of Indian Literature series created a lifelong interest in me for Indian aesthetics.
JCLA is published under the aegis of Viswanath Kaviraja Institute, which he founded. https://t.co/mwcYD0Uq25

My article in @the_hindu today. I argue that substituting the due process framework for a culture of naming and shaming has harmful consequences not just for the accused but also for survivors.

The need is therefore, to build systems where women can feel safe to complain, without fearing backlash or loss of employment- which is perhaps why so many women report anonymously in the first place.

*Know the evidence of great Past~
The birthplace of the great twelfth-century Sanskrit cum Odia poet Jayadeva has been quite unknown to public,(I am not talking about researcher)
Even this had led to a bitter feud between some north states with odisha

On #GandhiJayanti a real question. Did #MahatmaGandhi "get" India freedom or did he delay it in a way that pleased the British rulers.
INA Trust's book "Netaji" in partnership with @GarudaPrakashan, attempts an answer from the British's own records.

Buddhists won’t agree to “One Dharma”. These are Mahayana trads developed in India and propagated to Tibet and East Asia. Foundation of Thai Buddhism propagated by Sri Lankan Theravada monks in 12th-13th centuries on top of older Mahayana, Saivite, and Skt. Theraveda traditions.

Guru Nanak Dev’s parampara & the role it played is starkly different from Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s. The latter eventually left Navadvipa & lived out His days under Raja RudraPratap ji in Puri. 6 Goswamis revived Bhakti but not Shakti. Gaudiyas had no contribution to Piri whatsoever
