I've just released an essay that may be of interest to those who are seeking to understand institutional stagnation and reform, inquiring into societal power structures, or simply curious about the mystique of the Robert Caro biographies.
Caro wrote an exhaustive biography of Lyndon Johnson in 4 volumes, focusing on the methods Johnson used to accumulate political power.
I distilled what I thought were some of the most important lessons from the series, focusing on how Johnson accumulated power in institutions by paying keen attention to the divergence between merely formal vs real political power.
