Panchatantra studies owe a great debt to Western scholars Hertel & Edgerton who made a reliable text available about 100 years ago. But what have we done to take Panchatantra studies forward? Precious little. Look forward to listening to Prof. Srinivsan this afternoon. https://t.co/6hYPCumfGv

Such a relief to hear @piyushgoyal espouse balanced views on religion and community based issues. I hope we have more like him who are open minded and development oriented.

Damning video of @PiyushGoyal justifying govt capture & control of Hindu temples, discrimination against Hindu institutes of education justified as "affirmative action" has evaporated from Youtube. It is imperative that the common citizen realizes that they don't have to choose  between the 'left mafia' and the 'right mafia' who justify hate against each other - these both are on the SAME SIDE of violence and hate.
There is a whole world of possibilities away from them.

For 4.5yr most of RW has blindly trusted Modi govt, it is only now that some very basic probing Q are being asked and that too in a polite way by friendly folks - @arunjaitley 2 weeks back and @PiyushGoyal now have just confirmed how  clueless they are on this.

Statements such "Music and dance transcend the known" by prominent political commentators should be called out.
what does it even mean ?
it implies an arrogance that everything else is mundane 'known'. music and dance r special.
from where does this idea?

It is not just music or dance, but Rasa in general. It belongs to Shiva alone. Rasa needs to be consumed with utter dispassion.

By using bicycle as a metaphor, a computer was symbolizing all these positives as a human tool for individual empowerment. This vision was a gift from the social and political consciousness of the 1960s and 70s.  But this was a very unusual perspective of looking at computers. It would not be valid for very long, especially after the rise of the internet.
If we build a culture of individual expression of human experience, where the software serves as an individualized tool, we may defeat the octopus using an army of bicycles. PS: This post is dedicated to the memory of Doug Engelbart.

E-commerce can be imagined as an octopus with tentacles to everywhere in the universe, or as a village where every user has control over his personal bicycle. Both the models for computation are possible. But we increasingly gravitated towards the octopus. https://t.co/m5dZUfJR0K

In Greek mythology Sisyphus or Sisyphos was the king of Ephyra. He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down when it nears the top, repeating this action for eternity. Wikipedia

How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it.

On a seemingly daily basis, we see attacks against the intellectual culture of the academic humanities, which, since the 1960s, have opened up spaces for leftists to develop critical theories of all kinds. Attacks from supposedly liberal professors and centrist op-ed columnists, from well-funded conservative think tanks and white supremacists on college campus tours. All rail against the evils of feminism, post-modernism, and something called “neo-Marxism” with outsized agitation.

Bright students don't study humanities. College education is mediocre. Post-Graduation is not rigorous. Training in writing or research is almost non-existent. Reading is meagre; thinking, a chimera. Genuine curiosity is discouraged in favour of established patterns. #PhilosophyDay

For all textual/linguistic expressions, the Veda is supposedly the most ancient and authentic source. Of course, the Veda itself has clear Zoroastrian and Egyptian roots. Sri Aurobindo has done extensive translations and written commentaries to offer a new interpretation the Veda.
