My methodology of thinking has been influenced mostly by Foucault's Discipline and Punish and Marx's The German Ideology Revival Netz's Barbed Wire: An Ecology of Modernity is probably the book I wish I had written in the field. Jacques Derrida's The Animal That Therefore I Am provides a lot of the key insights that are missing or subdued in Barbed Wire.

Excellent piece by @samzsays.
The thing is, every party in this country has no core beliefs (even the BJP), and will go where it thinks the votes are. That makes them identical, and explains the apathy of so many people towards our democracy.

you may repeat these unsubstantiated legends and myths because Kalhana said so in his Rajtarangni, but they are just origin myths, like many of the claims in his book where he talks about kings living hundreds of years and fights with demons. But apparently we're brain-dead! https://t.co/0e1ALBfkmO

You clearly haven't read Stein's introduction to his translation of the Rajatarangini, and if you believe in demons and kings living hundreds of years is verified by sources, then you're living in cloud cooko land. How Bengal ‘Caste’ It Away. Several other ills plague the state but casteism is not one of them. Inter-caste marriages, as well as intimate and easy social interactions between members of different castes, are quite the norm in Bengal.  https://t.co/l8rlcQmWh3 via @swarajyamag

All this is after contact with Muslims and Christians, so it does not prove your point. The Hindu renaissance of the 19th century (of which Vivekananda was a part) was largely because of British influence. That is how Rammohan Roy, Dayanand Saraswati, Tagore and others came up.

Or the reasons could also be false propaganda regarding these three.
If you feel that Christianity+Colonialism was bad, don't you agree that Hinduism+BJP is going to be equally evil and disastrous in the long run, though they may achieve some temporary gains?

For all its flaws in practice, the radical power of democracy lies in the idea of equality: that there is nothing particularly special about you, me, Kohli, Bachchan, Rahul, or Modi. Or: we are all equally special. Institutionalizing this is a great achievement of modern society
