Multi disciplinary nature of fundamental concepts

Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Madras has decided to introduce a five-year integrated Masters degree in Development Studies, Economics and English studies through the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. It was announced by IIT-M, Director Professor M S Ananth. He said the programme to be introduced from the new academic year in 2006 June, would offer admission for 30 students, passing out of plus two (class 12). He said the distinctive features of the new MA (Development Studies/Economics/English Studies) include wide exposure to humanities and social sciences-breadth courses - to help students appreciate 'multi disciplinary nature of fundamental concepts, compulsory courses in ecology and environmental sciences and life sciences.
He said 14 experts from different institutions in the country were involved in preparing the study material for the new degree course. The programme also had the support of the Ministry of Human Resources Development at the Centre, he said. An entrance exam on the lines of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be conducted for admission to the programme," Ananth said. Mr. Aanath said , such an MA programme would be useful for a candidate aspiring to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as well as the industrial sector. IndiaEduNews.net
